Michael James Brown

A Salt Lake City native, Michael J Brown has been directing and producing films set against the backdrop of the outdoors for the past 10-plus years. Throughout this time he and his team at Sweetgrass Productions have pursued groundbreaking and innovative concepts, leading to some of the most iconic films in adventure sports. Brown started his career with the organization during the production of Hand Cut, which was shot deep in the snow blanket of Revelstoke, British Columbia. For a change of scenery, Brown’s film Darklight (Mountainfilm 2016) traded skis for bikes and is shot at night for a unique technicolor, glow-in-the-dark look. He is also the director of The Farmer (Mountainfilm 2022), a look at Wasatch mountains’ local legend David Van Dame’s life spent harvesting one of the most precious crops on earth: powder. He also co-directed Ghost Resorts: Japan (Mountainfilm 2024). Brown has dual majors in fine art photography and film production from Montana State University.
