Mountainfilm to Celebrate El Niño with Locals Exhibit

El Niño has been generous to Telluride this ski season, lashing the town in blizzards, lavishing the slopes in snow and aiming storm after storm at the San Juan Mountains. Drifts grow taller by the week, snowplows work overtime, bikes and cars disappear under blankets of snow, powder days stack up and skiers revel in the glorious conditions. High fives and hollers abound.

Telluride Mountainfilm plans to celebrate the bountiful season with a locals El Niño art exhibit at the 2016 festival and is calling on Telluride artists to submit their favorite winter-themed photos. These aren’t limited to skiing (though we certainly welcome photographs of skiers armpit-deep in powder or snowboarders dropping lines that haven’t seen coverage in years). Anything that celebrates the riches of the season is welcome — be it overgrown icicles, townspeople digging out, wildlife in the snow, avalanches or kids enjoying the fruits of a storm.

The show is open to the gamut of artists, from amateurs to professionals and students. Mountainfilm will curate the show based on the images we deem to be the best expressions of the season’s bounty and will print the images in large format on newsprint for a special outdoor show at the Telluride Transfer Warehouse — a brand new gallery venue this year at the festival. The El Niño exhibit will be part of Mountainfilm’s Gallery Walk, the vibrant art event that takes over downtown Telluride on the festival’s opening day (May 27, 2016).
